WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Where Louis first operated Meller Poultry.

By 1987, Meller Poultry had outgrown the office in Louis’ home and decided to construct a new building at the back of their property.

In the early 1980s, Louis Bill had the opportunity to start a company as the North American dealer for Meller-Batterien of Germany. In 1983, Meller-Batterien awarded the distribution rights to their poultry cage systems to Meller Poultry of Jarvis, Ontario.

In the early stages, Louis operated the company from a room in his home, having a small warehouse close by with inventory. Together, with help from his wife Martha, they began to grow as a company and expand as a business. By 1987, Meller Poultry had outgrown this current arrangement and decided to construct a new building at the back of Louis’ property. Louis and Martha thought that with this new building, it would be big enough forever!

The company grew steadily, and his family reached a stage where they could start helping out. Chris Bill, his son, helped out on a part-time basis while attending high school. By 1990, Chris had joined Meller Poultry full-time as his dad’s partner. In 1993, Meller Poultry added to their product line, becoming the dealer for Jansen Poultry Equipment. Over the next 10 years, Meller Poultry kept expanding, which caused ground to be broken in the summer of 2001. Construction began on a vacant piece of land just outside of Jarvis, consisting of a large office space, a showroom, and a large warehouse for inventory. The doors opened officially on February 7, 2002. Meller Poultry remains there to this day.

In 2019, Meller Poultry became the dealer for Kletec BV and is also the dealer for Sanovo Technology Group.

In 2020, Jansen Poultry became part of VDL Groep, now with the new name VDL Jansen. This again added more to Meller’s product line, with Meller also becoming the dealer for VDL Agrotech (part of VDL Groep).

Chris’ three sons started helping on a part-time basis throughout high school. Cody and James have both joined Meller Poultry full-time and strive to provide customer satisfaction as their father and grandfather have done.
